I joined the Beauty Craze.

Good morning! I joined the Beauty Craze along with many others following trends online, Tik Tok, Instagram, and so on. And what I’ve learned is I’m actually a minimalist when it comes to makeup and skincare. I want it to be easy, and convenient. I want it to be for me.

That said, I feel a strong urge to share my learnings on beauty, skincare, and products aimed at women, with you.

My observation is that the beauty industry, which predominately was created by men for women, targets us so that we will keep buying products. We need to clean our face, tone it, use serums, work on antiaging, even skin tone, etc. The list goes on forever, it feels. Through my process of researching skincare and wellness by women influencers, and estheticians, I’ve discovered that it’s best to adapt to your own needs. Less is really more. If you want to strip out products and be more of a minimalist in your beauty and skincare routine, do it!

Here is how I approached adjusting my beauty and skincare routine to bring about more time in my day, and happier skin!

First, I learned more about what are potentially harmful chemicals in my makeup and skincare products, so I could get rid of those products. I also throw out older products that perhaps I kept too long in the drawer for a special occasion that never came. Healthy Maven is a great place to start to learn what chemicals you might want to look out for and for what skin types.

Then I started following people who went to school and trained in this topic. Of renowned note is Caroline Hirons of the UK.

  • I first qualified in CIBTAC (Aesthetics) at the original Steiner School in Wardour Street, Central London. There are similar courses available in Ray Cochrane, London College of Beauty Therapy, CIDESCO’s website and ITEC’s website.

  • I did post-graduate courses in France with Biologique Recherche among others.

  • I am insured internationally through BABTAC and Balens.

She is wonderful and I think more people should know who she is! Estheticians are valuable and have been trained in skincare and skin science. They are wonderful, and the best resources.

What did I learn next? If I wanted to minimize my skincare routine, cleansing my face twice a day was honestly the most important.

If you are finding you have less time or are lazy once in a while, cleansing your face 1-2 times at bedtime only, and splashing your face with water in the morning, is enough.

It is enough to start seeing changes in your skin problem areas, and skin tone. I’m serious, all it takes is being consistent with cleansing your face! It is the simplest, and most minimal way I have found to start being consistent with skincare and protecting my skin’s natural barrier.

My third step to building my beauty regime is multi-use products!

It was important to me that I could still moisturize, cleanse, and protect my skin with SPF but again I wanted it to be simple. I’m tired of “needing” to use so many products when my boyfriend using 1-3 daily. That’s it. Why can’t it be the same for women?

So here I go. This is really the bare minimum after cleansing: Moisturize, protect from the sun, and other environmental factors that damage skin (wind, allergens, etc). 1, 2, 3, done!

I happened upon a female-led brand after much scrolling in my google news feed, FB, and Instagram. I’ve learned oil is great for the skin, especially any skin type. It is a misconception that using oil-based products will cause oily skin to be more oily.

So, why not learn about Everyday Oil directly from the source (this is not a sponsored post or ad). I just thoroughly enjoy the uses of this product, and what it can do for your skin. I really love this product!

What I use: Unscented Everyday Oil + La Roche Posay Repair Moisturizer with SPF

I prefer to use the unscented Everyday Oil in an 8oz bottle daily (without essential oils); literally just with the plant-based oils that work well on your skin: Coconut, Olive, Jojoba, Castor, and Argan Oil in this blend. It’s been perfect for my sensitive skin that also drys out every day. (Especially if I have too much salt in my diet that day—what you eat certainly affects your skin and hair too.)

I use Everyday Oil to:

  1. Cleanse my face

  2. Tone/Moisturize

  3. Great Hydrator and Primer for Eyelashes, eyes, makeup.

  4. Bonus: I can layer any other moisturizer, serum, or oil over it!

Essential Oils can cause an allergic-like reaction to the skin so this option is perfect for anyone like me who prefers to avoid this potential irritant.

I have a 2oz bottle of the scented Everyday Oil, that I put in my hair for a refresh, and to smell good. This is as close to essential oils as I get if you do not count candles. You can see my review here!
